Samir Karahoda holds a degree and a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul. Alongside his work as a photographer, he works as a cinematographer and tutor, and for nearly two decades has curated the short film program at the Documentary and Short Film Festival DokuFest in Prizren, Kosovo. He founded SK Pictures, an independent production company developing and producing his films.
The documentary short In Between (Në mes) marked his directorial debut, premiering at the Berlinale in 2019. Displaced (2021) and On the Way (2024) both premiered in Official Competition at the Cannes Film Festival. Displaced, received the IMDb Pro Short Cuts Award at TIFF and Best Nonfiction Short at the Sundance Film Festival, and was nominated for the European Film Awards.
In 2019, Karahoda received the annual cinematography award from the Ministry of Culture of Kosovo. He is a member of the European Film Academy.
